Well, candid photography is very hard, and many street photographers try to avoid posed shots.

Diane Arbus on the other hand seemed to do almost exclusively posed shots -- random, or found perhaps, but eventually posed, to the point of a kind of stillness.

I remember when the Bosworth biography came out in 1984 tearing through it to discover her "secret" for not being afraid to approach people on the street to ask to take their picture because that was the thing I found hardest -- asking people to take their picture. It seems, that she never learned not to be afraid of that moment, she just overcame it, pushed herself to do it anyway.

Yes, I was a big fan of Arbus, and remember that bit about fear in the Bosworth bio,

Being afraid of the moment, sadly, still seems to have killed her in the end.
