Make Mine Flannel [Sep. 5th, 2007|12:40 pm]

My post the other day on fashion designers Robert Tagliapietra and Jeffrey Costello got a lot of attention (UFC: 2, Rick Rubin: 2, The Starn Twins: 0, and Bears Who Sew: 10), so I thought I’d scan in the newspaper photos, which were cropped better and printed larger than the one photo available online, and picked up a few more available elsewhere on the web. Click below for more.

Somebody has a crucifix fetish!

Bravo TV fans should recognize who they’re dressing here. The schmatta? $1200+ at Barney’s.

In the photos you can see the evolution of their personal style, experimenting with beard styles and lengths, going all-plaid flannel, and adding suspenders.

I like how they don’t shy away from being photographed touching each other.

Here they are at the end of a recent runway show, where you can see their matching tattoos…

…which I wonder if they were inspired by the Minute Maid OJ commercial where Popeye and Bluto get matching ‘Buddies for Life’ tattoos (you can watch the commercial here).

But our boys still know what the word “formal” means on a Gala invitation.

They have some serious design chops, having worked with more musicians than you could shake an iPod at (including goddesses Björk and Madonna), and have had their designs featured in Vogue more than a dozen times.

They can be stalked in their Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn neighborhood. Look for the plaid drapes -- although I suspect those face an airshaft or another building.

Why do they look so familiar to me? Especially Robert(?) the taller. I'm pretty sure I have met him.

Notice how they still manage to wear their boots, even when going formal?

I sure did! And they were perfect.
Boots with formal attire: not just for women anymore! :-D

I really like the Vogue shot. (The very posed one with the model who looks like a lifeless mannequin... painting?) Very Helmut Newton.

They seem like a really good example of a apparent dissonance between their own presentation and their passion.

The biggest dissonance for me is that designers with spreads in Vogue still live in a (rent-stabilized) apartment in Carroll Gardens.

Kind of makes me wish I hadn't given up on my brilliant career in fashion photography.

ok, why does the fact that they are big wig fashion designers make them even hotter as bears? :)

The bedroom wall hangings though.... creepy! That is unless they mock them when ever they have sex, then it's ok I guess.

I have this unstoppable fetish for men who sew, knit or make things in general. It's the same reaction in my reptilian brain that I get from seeing a nice cock, hairy chest or delicious butt.

And I'm totally not alone on that.

Knitting

You can drool over my knitted goodies at www.norskybear.blogspot.com; if you're a good boy, you may even get a customized hat for Christmas. Where were you when I was at Mac from 1994-1996?

Oh I'll be an extra good boy this year! Added you to my Google Reader :)

Speaking of being a boy I was of 12-14 years old during those years. I believe I was going through a severe Toronto Blue Jays phase. But I lived on Ewen Rd in the West End right near Mac. Mom worked at the medical centre.

They are tailors fergawdssakes and they can't sew themselves a dinner jacket that fits?

These guys need an internship with the late Gianfranco Ferre about making menswear for big men. Just study what he made for men of all sizes, including himself.

There are only 6 shots (where you can see the fronts of the shirts), where THEY fit properly, either.....nothing like plaids or stripes to emphasize a puckery button-placket!

You know, aside from that general fascination with the "Designer Bears" thing (because after becoming a Project Runway fanatic, I gained a new appreciation for clothes designers in general), if they worked in IT, I'd probably still have a mad crush on both of them. They're adorable.

Thank you Dee for guiding me to Thor's Post. I have their website bookmarked at work, and try to keep a random eye out for their names (like in your Post today) especially when fashion week rolls around.

In any event, Thankee Thor for the fun post with the hot bearzes. I will have to stop by more often.

Thanks Thor for all the hard work of posting these pics of Robert & Jefferey. These guys are amazing with their look & style. Cool matching tattoos & their pet bulldog. They also wear there leather boots while wearing their tux? Cool. I hope these guys will be up there with fashion icons Donna Karen & Versace. Again Thor thanks for posting these pics of these bear icons. Take care & Big Bear Hugs.
