Friday, November 30, at 8 p.m.
The Eulenspiegel Society once again invited me to present an S/M at the Movies film clips program. We decided to do an encore screening of "The Complete Marquis De Sade Film Festival in Ninety Minutes or Less," which was originally produced for their 35th Anniversary (!) TES Fest last year, and could only be seen by those attending that special weekend-long event out in the wilds of New Jersey.
This presentation will be on Friday, November 30, at 8 p.m., at Paddles, 250 West 26th St, near Eighth Ave here in Manhattan. Admission will only be $4 for members of TES, LSM, GMSMA, and The Renegades, $8 for non-members.
More info as the date approaches, or see here. Would be great to see some of my LJ peeps there!

you might even get a visit from the drew of Texas.
Woof! I'll wear my best boots for the occasion!
Wow thanks for letting us know about it:-) I wish I could go, sounds like fun:-)
I LOVE Sade! That "Smooth Operator" song is a classic!
wow. i wish i still lived in nyc. though i guess, when i did, i never had time to go to s/m clubs to watch s/m art films anyway.
yeah, that de sade segment of Waxwork changed my life when i was like 8. i remember being SOO turned on by it, and having absolutely no fucking idea what was wrong with me, what being 'turned on' was, or why i was feeling this way about this weird man whipping people bloody. wow, i need to take a breather.
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD ewewewewew Salo. Seen it. Twice. Isn't that more just kidnapping, abuse and torture, and not so much S/M? Like, not consensual? I'm curious (and a bit titillated)...what are the criteria for a clip appearing?
You are correct about Salo -- and the criteria for all previous S/M at the Movies programs (this is the sixth in the series) has been that it's about sadomasochism, not just senseless violence or something the audience (as opposed to the movie's characters) projects onto and finds erotic.
The criteria for this program, however, was to go back to the namesake of sadism, and all sixteen of these films are based on his life or written works, or feature De Sade as a character -- sometimes fantastical, sometimes serious, sometimes sensational/exploitational. They run the gamut from Bunuel's two surreal art films to horror films to softcore porn, from a prestigious, Academy Award-nominated biopic to grindhouse features.
Don't know if you're looking for more suggestions, but there's a Nightmare on Elmstreet movie (I think it's part 4) that has a scene of a high school coach in leather tying another guy (one of his players?) to the shower head in the locker room and is about to whip him, then Freddie enters, the guy is released and the coach gets whipped bloody by Freddy. Strangely hot.
Thanks for the suggestion -- it's in a genre I don't normally watch, so I'll be sure and check it out for future programs.
heh heh if we can do Nightmare, then every Hellraiser movie is a S&M movie too... grrr
OHHHHH that's right up my alley :) | |
